Blitz in the natural park of Molentargius with seven poachers caught poaching. 500 illegally hunted starlings and bird trapping equipment recovered.

The operation, which also affected the wetlands of Capoterra, was carried out by the forestry police of the Cites Nucleus of Cagliari, precisely in the context of the fight against poaching that would be causing serious damage especially in the south of the island.

Captain Marta Simonetti coordinated the blitz: the carabinieri of the Quartu and Cagliari companies collaborated with the soldiers of the Cites Nucleus.

The forces in the field tirelessly searched the territory looking for traces of poachers in the reeds of the Molentargius pond (Quartu Sant'Elena) and in the Mediterranean scrub (Capoterra), focusing attention on the wetlands already reported by the Lipu, Cabs and WWF volunteers. . Checks were also carried out in the stalking areas thanks to a reconnaissance overflight carried out by the XI Nucleo Helicopters of Elmas.

The campaign to combat poaching in Southern Sardinia in less than a week led to the overall identification of seven people held responsible for hunting theft by means of prohibited instruments of capture, killing of animals and receiving stolen goods. The persons identified have been reported in a state of freedom and the profiles of responsibility will be ascertained by the judiciary in compliance with the regulations in force.

The operations also led to the seizure, as mentioned, of over 500 starlings (Sturnus vulgaris), a large tile (a large net with a diameter of almost two meters that can capture hundreds of specimens with a single use), a snare in large steel for the capture of protected and rare ungulates such as the Sardinian deer.

The facts are being examined by the competent judicial authority.
