Protests are mounting among seniors who frequent Padre Pio Park on Viale Colombo in Quartu . The garden is beautiful and well-kept, but there are no amenities. Starting with the bathrooms.
"There are so many things that aren't working," says 83-year-old Aldo Falqui, "and it's a shame because this is a very beautiful green area." The biggest problem "is undoubtedly the lack of restrooms. Why don't they install toilets, even portable ones? A lot of elderly people come here and when they need it, they're forced to go home because we can't just walk into the clinic and ask if we can use the restroom."
Andrea Lugas, 84, agrees. "The lack of bathrooms is a major flaw. And it's a shame no one is thinking of finding a solution to this problem." This is a problem that also affects other green spaces in the city, such as Europa Park in Pitz'e Serra, where residents had even collected signatures on a petition calling for the installation of restrooms.
In Padre Pio Square, "there isn't even a tap," reveals Valentino Pedracci, 79, "or rather , the fountain is there. It's a shame it hasn't worked for 10 years . So in these days of terrible heat, we can't even cool off ."
This also happens in many other areas of the city center, where all the taps present have been torn down by vandals and have never been used again since.
