Quartu, Brotzu High School students are "sentinels" against bullying: recognition from the Ministry

Strength lies in numbers. This is why preventing and combating bullying and cyberbullying requires close collaboration between students, teachers, and school staff. This is how the student sentinels were created at the Brotzu scientific high school in Quartu . In practice, it works like this: first, a few students are trained to become the "student sentinels." In other words, when they're in class, they act as guardians and mediators when conflicts arise. If they see a student in trouble, they report it, and the case is brought to the school's anti-bullying committee so that no time is wasted in intervening. The student sentinels are trained with psychologists.
This project is so important that it has earned prestigious recognition from the Ministry of Education and Merit : the school was selected among the top eleven nationwide "for the effectiveness of its strategies for preventing and combating bullying and cyberbullying." Tomorrow, the school will be welcomed to Rome to present the project.
"We are very proud of this recognition for our 'Well-Being at School' initiative," explained Headmaster Giovanni Gugliotta . "The Ministry has recognized the quality of our project, recognizing not only its educational value but also its high potential for replication in other Italian school settings. This is a further incentive to continue the path undertaken by the schools in the network, with whom we are pleased to share this important recognition: Euclide High School in Cagliari, Pitagora High School in Selargius, Gramsci High School in Monserrato, and Comprehensive Institutes 1-2 in Sinnai, Loru Dessì High School in Villacidro, and 5 in Quartu."
The project was supported by Professor Maria Perra of the Sinnai 1-2 Comprehensive Institute, author and project manager for the entire life cycle. She oversaw the transition from theoretical modeling of the content to its operational implementation, ensuring the scientific consistency validated by the Ministry.
