Pula, the zero-mile cooking center? Closed. And school meals come from Elmas

Those kitchens were supposed to provide meals for the children of the schools of Pula, Sarroch, Villa San Pietro and Domus de Maria; instead, the cooking center in Pula, which is located in the buildings of Sardegna Ricerche, is still inaccessible.

The company that won the contract for the school canteen was supposed to prepare food for all the schools in the area in the Is Molas cooking center, but due to the work to adapt the premises to the new ASL regulations, the meals actually come from Elmas, in the face of zero-mile food.

Nothing to say about the quality of the meals that arrive every day on the tables of the canteens of the nursery and primary schools of the Union of Municipalities Nora-Bithia, the problem mainly concerns the snacks, represented by packaged products, and not by the genuine ones that the company should have prepared in the cooking center of Is Molas.

The problem of the inaccessibility of the cooking center has been raised several times in the City Council by the minority group "Siamo Pula", which has repeatedly asked the Council for clarification . "It has been explained to us several times that the cooking center cannot be used due to technical problems - explains the group leader, Ilaria Collu -, a situation that arose at the beginning of the school year, and which forced the company that was awarded the catering service to prepare the meals in Elmas, and not in Pula, a significant detail, given that the food has to travel for kilometers. We would like to understand whether this problem can be solved before the arrival of summer, or whether even for the next few months the users will have to use a service that does not comply with the tender specifications".

The mayor, Walter Cabasino , assures the imminent opening of the cooking center of the Sardegna Ricerche complex: «Following the tender , some critical issues of the structure emerged, for this reason it was necessary to carry out interventions that make the kitchens suitable with respect to the new provisions of the ASL . The cooking center operated until last year, the meals of the schools of Pula were prepared there, and I remember that lunch was served in the canteen of Is Molas on the occasion of the inauguration of the training school for forest rangers of Piscinamanna. We understand that there is some small inconvenience, but the work is now finished, we are waiting for the authorizations of the ASL and the other bodies involved: as soon as we get the green light, the meals will finally be prepared in Pula».
