"We are faced with yet another accident on the Strada Statale 195, fortunately the impact caused by a deer crossing the road occurred with a car: if instead it had involved a motorcyclist, today we would be here recording the second victim in just over two months".

After the latest head-on collision between a car and a deer crossing the Sulcitana in the Santa Margherita area, the minority councilors of the group “Siamo Pula”, composed of Ilaria Collu, Angela Mascia, Claudia Casula, Emanuele Farneti and Marco Sarais ask the institutions to intervene before there are more victims .

"We can no longer postpone, we are in a full-blown emergency , urgent interventions are needed for road safety and the safety of all - explain the councilors of Siamo Pula -, the 195 is crossed daily by wild animals, both at night and during the day, especially in the stretch and streets between Is Molas and Santa Margherita. Despite the tragic fatal accident this summer, which involved a motorcyclist, the institutions still seem reluctant to take concrete measures and in the meantime the phenomenon continues to intensify , making local traffic increasingly dangerous throughout the territory". The opposition group in the City Council points the finger at the general inertia that reigns over the problem of accidents caused by ungulates.

"The authorities in charge and also the municipal administration address this very serious problem only at the media level, without real actions aimed at an effective resolution. They limit themselves to discussing the issue, but the safety of citizens and tourists is constantly endangered , it is not only a matter of ensuring the safety of humans and animals, but also of preventing significant damage to vehicles that are often seriously compromised and unusable, creating no small economic difficulties".

For the councilors of Siamo Pula, the lack of a management strategy for the problem is leading to an uncontrolled increase in the population of ungulates in the area : «All possible solutions must be considered, such as the installation of deterrent systems along the most at-risk stretches of road, as well as constant monitoring to identify the areas of greatest crossing and control of wild animals that also involves forcing their migration to other areas».
