Porto Torres, they get off the train but the station is closed: two tourists "trapped"

Train station closed when train arrives. A nightmare that lasted over an hour but ended, fortunately, with a happy ending.

The episode happened yesterday evening in Porto Torres, when two tourists got off the train, which arrived late at the station in via Fontana Vecchia . The last arrival was scheduled for 18:34, but the board announced a delay.

The employee, probably misinterpreting the message, understood that the train, departing from Cagliari, would have arrived in Sassari, skipping the stop in Porto Torres, a stop that would have been covered by a bus that would have taken the passengers from Sassari to the port city. Therefore he thought of closing the gates of the Funtana Vecchia train station with a padlock.

Instead, the train respected its course and, although late, reached the Porto Torres station shortly before 7:00 p.m., when the gates were already barred. The two tourists, overcome by desperation, alerted the owner of the accommodation, Luca Calledda, who was supposed to host them for the night.

Thus began the ordeal that lasted for over an hour, with the intervention of the Carabinieri and local police in search of the closing officer. Once contacted, the man "freed" the two women by opening the side gate of the station. "Something that has never happened before," he said, apologizing for what had happened.
