The Democratic Party and the Five Star Movement are moving together toward a future alliance ahead of the upcoming 2026 local elections. In Porto Torres, initial discussions have begun between the committee appointed by the city's current governing majority—the Democratic Party, Progetto Turritano, and Orizzonte Comune—and other political groups, to support the candidacy of Massimo Mulas, the mayor running for a second term.

Last week, an initial meeting was held with the Five Star Movement, a local delegation represented by Gavino Arru, Massimo Pintus, Loredana De Marco, and Renato Iannella. During the meeting, the Five Star Movement, which Mayor Mulas attended, expressed its willingness to support Mayor Massimo Mulas's re-election, while reserving some considerations regarding the possible composition of the future coalition that will accompany his candidacy. "Together with the mayor, we appreciated the delegation's willingness and clarifications, acknowledging them with a spirit of openness and discussion," said Democratic Party city secretary Antonello Cabitta. "We reiterated that the coalition supporting his re-election is still being built and that the natural starting point will be the current majority that has governed the city for the past five years." The goal is to build an alliance inspired by the "broad field" model that currently governs the Region and the island's main cities, while also leveraging the contribution of civic lists.

"These latter, if consistent with the political-administrative project we intend to pursue, could represent added value for a strong, cohesive, and forward-looking proposal for our community," maintains the Democratic Party secretary. The intention is to engage in dialogue with all political and civic forces interested in sharing the administrative path undertaken thus far, "based on common goals and the desire to contribute to the development of Porto Torres and the entire Northwest Sardinia region. In recent years, Porto Torres has successfully reclaimed a central and leading role that will also be crucial to the future structure of the Metropolitan City. In conclusion, we parted with the commitment to meet again soon with the other forces in the majority to begin a broad and constructive discussion aimed at defining an inclusive coalition."
