Porto Torres, homage to Giovanni Dettori for the woodcut "OttoMani"

Homage to the artist from Turritano Giovanni Dettori, a talented xylographer capable of transmitting his culture with generosity .
On Friday 28 March, at 1:00 am, in the Palazzo del Marchese, the municipal administration of Porto Torres will deliver a plaque of thanks to the artist Giovanni Dettori for the generous donation to the Municipality of the print of his impressive work “OttoMani”, positioned in the entrance hall of the institutional headquarters of the institution in Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
The refined engraver and designer created the extraordinary xylography - unique in the world for its genre and size (3.60 metres x 2.50) - together with some of his students from the engraving techniques course at the "Mario Sironi" Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari.
The result of passionate work by the artists who had enthusiastically welcomed the idea suggested by the administration to create an engraving that recalled the Passio di Gavino, Proto and Gianuario, patrons of the City of Porto Torres and the Diocese of Turritana, the work was shown to the public for the first time in October 2023, on the occasion of the opening of the new printing house in the Dettori xylographic laboratory in via Petrarca.
The inauguration of the creative space took place precisely in conjunction with the days dedicated to the commemoration of the dies natalis , the martyrdom of the saints that took place in Turris Libisonis between 25 and 27 October 303 AD. Full of symbolism, the work transmits values of humanity, faith and spirit of identity. With the delivery of the plaque, the municipal administration wants to officially thank Dettori for his generosity and for the strong bond with the history and traditions of the city expressed with his masterpiece.
The ceremony will be attended by the mayor Massimo Mulas , the councilor for culture Maria Bastiana Cocco, the artist Giovanni Dettori and his students: Alessandra Fiori, Alice Patteri, Angelo De Santis, Francesco Cherveddu, Luca Zedda, Pierluigi Mura, Federico Satta.
