Beauty, lights and originality reward the three best Christmas decorations in the city of Porto Torres. The Municipality has awarded the winners of the “Presepi per la città 2024” competition, announced by the Turritan administration to underline the community spirit in contributing to creating a welcoming Christmas atmosphere in the various city districts thanks to the installation of light decorations and ornaments in the outdoor spaces of private homes and commercial activities. The awards for the initiative, permanently included in the calendar of Turritan Christmas events, were presented in the afternoon, Thursday 9 January, in the council chamber, during a ceremony attended by the Councilor for Culture Maria Bastiana Cocco.
For the “Private Christmas installations” category, first place went to Roberto Bono who won the prize of 400 euros for the splendid decoration set up in his home on Via Tramontana. The joint winners for the “Shop windows of commercial activities” category were Alessandro Usai and Franco Campus who were awarded 200 euros each. The installations stood out for their elegance and brightness, underlining the commitment and creativity of the authors in creating stimuli and attractiveness in different urban contexts. The jury composed of Giacomo Rum, Fabrizio Budroni and Giovanna Manca evaluated the works based on criteria such as originality, lighting, elegance, integration with the urban context, creativity, innovation and perspective. The competition is organized in memory of Vincenzo Camoglio, a citizen of Turritano who passed away in 2021 and who gave so much to the city in sporting, political and social terms. Camoglio was a great enthusiast of artisanal nativity scenes, he loved to build them and display them during the Christmas holidays.
Councilor for Culture Maria Bastiana Cocco thanked all those who participated in the competition this year, which has become a tradition of Christmas in Turritano. "Presepi per la città - said the councilor - is an opportunity to underline the spirit of sharing and unity that characterizes the activity of citizens and commercial operators. We thank all those who every year join the initiative designed to create an opportunity for meeting and socializing among the inhabitants. The feeling of community also develops through this type of event that is based on relationships and the enhancement of spaces for the benefit of the entire community. The award ceremony also ideally closes the calendar of events that have animated our city during the Christmas period: although bad weather forced us to cancel or postpone a series of initiatives planned for the pre-Christmas period, we started the new year in the best way with two days dedicated to the Epiphany and scheduled with good public success in the historic center together with commercial activities, the Pro Loco and the city's cultural associations".
