A plane that crashes in a fire and ends up in the sea, 55 passengers to be rescued immediately. This is the scenario - simulated - at the center of the international exercise carried out this morning off the coast of Cagliari under the coordination of the Coast Guard and with the presence of aircraft and naval vehicles from various European navy.

Thus ended the three days of work dedicated to the exchange and confrontation between leading experts on the themes of search and rescue at sea, organized by the Italian Coast Guard with the European Frontex Agency.

And today, in Operation Squalo 2022 in which twenty aircraft and naval units were engaged, there was a rescue exercise.

And the choice of Cagliari , as highlighted by Admiral Giuseppe Aulicino, Head of the Plans and Operations Department of the General Command of the Italian Coast Guard, was strategic: "The sea is a precious asset that must be defended and preserved and the Mediterranean is a large community in perpetual movement that needs organization and security. The choice of southern Sardinia, as an operational plan, was dictated by the fact that it is an area with high air and sea traffic , in a central position both with respect to the countries adhering to the Sarmedocc agreement and to the scenario of the Themis operation coordinated by the Frontex European Agency " .
