Forty-one million euros of PNRR funds destined for the Metropolitan City of Cagliari will be used for the redevelopment of the civic market of San Benedetto, the largest indoor market in Italy and one of the largest in Europe.

Mayor Truzzu shared the project with the dealers and in a meeting with them made official the green light to obtain the resources. “We all know - explains Truzzu about the market built in the 1950s and inaugurated in 1957 - how the current structure is obsolete, inadequate for needs and has numerous dysfunctions for citizens and operators”.

The market, without losing its historical identity, will be completely renovated inside and it will also be possible to use the terrace on the top floor. The positioning of the stalls will be optimized with new outdoor areas and a modern boulevard will be created, "full of services and functional, with pre-installed and aesthetically homogeneous stalls that will be made available to exhibitors." Interventions are also planned to encourage lower energy consumption.

In the budget there are also the resources to create a temporary market that guarantees, during the works, continuity to traders and services to citizens.

“The goal we have set ourselves - explains Truzzu on Facebook - is to create a beautiful, modern, more accessible and sustainable market. This will allow us to extend the opening also in the evening time slots and will allow the recovery of unsold goods through offer cycles of the traditional local product of our civic market ".

“Heritage of our city, a piece of our history that looks to the future”, concludes the mayor.
