“It was a tense and violent Christmas Eve the one just spent in the Bancali prison”.

The complaint comes from the Sappe prison police union, which reports an episode of assault on an officer by a detainee.

"It happened - explains Antonio Cannas, national delegate for Sardinia of the Autonomous Penitentiary Police Syndicate - that around 1 pm the prison policeman on duty in the Promenade Area of the prison was suddenly and treacherously hit with a violent slap by an inmate, such as to drop the radio agent and a folder with service documents ".

To prevent the situation from deteriorating further was the intervention of the other inmates, who defended the injured officer, until the arrival of his colleagues.

"Favorably surprising was the behavior of the other inmates - adds Cannas - who isolated the violent until the arrival of the other policemen".

Cannas himself, however, adds: "On the other hand, the one hired by the Department Commander is disconcerted, who would have limited himself to wishing happy holidays to the attacked colleague, without personally taking measures to contain the violent restricted, and then leave prison by the end of the shift… ".

The attack by Bancali a few days after another attack, which took place in the Nuoro prison, where a prisoner beat an agent.

For Donato Capece, secretary general of Sappe, that of Sardinia "is a real prison emergency. The regional prisons of Sardinia are highlighted once again for episodes of violence: unfortunately, many inmates who have been assigned have serious psychiatric problems, many others are dangerous and restricted in the High security circuit and 41 bis, for very serious crimes including terrorism. Penitentiary Police Agents, Directors, Commanders and civilian personnel are missing in Sardinia. The Penitentiary Police does its utmost to guarantee what is established by current legislation, but many times there is a lack of units for a more active control: we are forced to suppress, every day in Sardinian prisons, numerous service posts because there is a lack of personnel and then this unacceptable violence occurs ”.
