An attack on board a ship and consequent spillage of hydrocarbons into the sea. The emergency was triggered this morning at 11, but it was an exercise activated by the Port Authority - Coast Guard of Oristano which was also attended by men and vehicles from the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Finance Police , the fire brigade, towing, piloting, mooring and anti-pollution services operating in the port. The aim was to “familiarize” with the Local Security and Anti-Pollution Plan and verify the operation and efficiency of all the authorities and bodies which, for various reasons, are called upon to intervene in similar situations.
In detail, a fire was simulated in the left bunker station during the refueling operations of the Lithuanian-flagged M / N Aquarius, which moored at the quay called SIMEC (Cellino). Following the fire, 8 cubic meters were spilled into the sea. of fuel oil IFO 380.
The operations room of the Harbor Master's Office has sent its own ground personnel, the Yoda nautical vessel of the Castalia Company, and one of the Tharros Marittima company. The firefighters have put out the flames and the tug Pina Onorato has activated the firefighting equipment to cool the ship's bulkheads. The men of 115 determined that the fire had developed following the triggering of a small explosive charge positioned on the bunker line present on the ship's deck. Then the security procedures were activated with the intervention of the bomb squad and the canine units of the State Police who made it possible to verify that there were no further explosive devices on board.
The exercise was fully successful and, underlines a note, "confirmed the functioning of the emergency response organization coordinated by the Port Authority and the high levels of preparation and training of the personnel of all the public authorities involved and port operators, highlighting prompt and effective reaction times and emergency communications, guarantee of rapid and adequate response to the hypothesized event ".
