Alarm is growing over the presence of criminal organizations in Sardinia. Following recent statements by Cagliari's Attorney General, Luigi Patronaggio, who denounced the mafia's interest in the region, particularly its tourism sector, SIAP, the Italian police union, has issued an appeal calling for an immediate reinforcement of its police force on the island.

"The Coral Riviera is not an isolated case; the entire island is targeted by criminal organizations," Patronaggio emphasized, reporting mafia infiltration into investments in beach resorts and restaurants, especially in the Alghero area.

The police union, raising the alarm, accuses the Ministry of the Interior of having " forgotten Sardinia," leaving staffing shortages unresolved despite requests made in recent months. A situation that, according to SIAP, risks compromising the safety of citizens and the very effectiveness of law enforcement.

As evidence of the criticality of the moment, the union cites the attack on an armored vehicle that occurred a few days ago along state highway 387, near Sant'Andrea Frius, which it calls "tangible proof of the vulnerability of the security front."

And he speaks of a Sardinia "exposed to multiple forms of organized crime," which is why he is calling on the Department of Public Security to take immediate action: a special plan to strengthen staff starting next December, constant monitoring of private investments in at-risk sectors, and greater involvement of union representatives in territorial security discussions.

"There's no more time for analysis or sophistries," SIAP warns. "Quick decisions are needed to ensure the peace of mind of citizens and thwart the spread of serious criminal activity. The island cannot become a laboratory for mafia syndicates from Puglia, Calabria, Campania, or abroad."

And he added : "We will continue to write to the Department to obtain more units in all branches of the State Police in Sardinia and avoid a silent operational collapse."
