The resurgence of the pandemic with the increase in cases due to the Omicron variant, prevalent at 70% in Sardinia, and the new rules on the Green pass are pushing the vaccination campaign on the island with an increase in administrations and first doses, not only pediatric ones.

Several small municipalities are organizing dedicated days and reservations are already beyond the availability of scheduled doses, so much so that new Open Days are planned.

In Cagliari, since after Epiphany, there has been a constant and intense flow of people to the hub of the Cagliari Fair. Even today, long lines were recorded with waits of up to an hour to be vaccinated. Then there is always someone who shows up even without a reservation to get the vaccine before the scheduled appointment: and if there are slots available, he is satisfied.

According to the data of the Asl of Cagliari, 300 first doses (between pediatric and for adults) and 600 in the whole territory covered by the health authority were booked and carried out today, while before December 15 the daily average was below 100, even fluctuating between 70 and 80 inoculations / day.

In the first 10 days of January 2022, 50 thousand vaccinations have already been administered including first, second and booster doses and, at this rate, according to an estimate by the ASL, it will reach 130 thousand at the end of the month.

Currently the Sardinians vaccinated are 1,280,309 equal to 80.1%. The next goal is to reach 90% of the vaccinated population, a result which, if vaccinations continue at this rate, could be achieved at Easter.
