The works for the construction of the biodigester at the Spiritu Santu waste treatment site in Olbia have been awarded: the first in Sardinia, the integrated organic waste treatment plant will begin to see the light of day within this year and will begin distributing biomethane in the city, produced by processing waste, within the first half of 2026. The contract for the design and construction of the plant was awarded to Secit srl, a company of the Gesenu group, an environmental holding with revenues of over 300 million.

The biodigester, which involves the combination of anaerobic and aerobic processes, will treat 110 tons of organic waste per day, including that from agricultural and livestock activities, with peaks of 160 tons in the summer months, delivered by eight municipalities in Gallura, from which it will produce three million cubic meters of biomethane annually, 40 percent more than the needs of Olbia users connected to the city gas network. The new plant, located in the four hectares of the landfill managed by Cipnes, cost the industrial consortium an investment of 21 million euros, covered (in part) by Pnrr funds.
