Alessandra Cottu, the young girl from Ollolai who was seriously injured in the tragic car accident on September 11th just outside Nuoro, was declared brain dead this evening . The confirmation came this afternoon, following the completion of scheduled procedures at the Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital in Rome, where the young woman had been hospitalized in intensive care for several days.
The mayor of Ollolai, Francesco Columbu , visibly moved, barely holds back tears: "It's a very sad day, not only for our community but for all of Sardinia. Until the very end, we hoped for a miracle. I know that the transplant procedures have already begun: Alessandra, with the family's consent, will give an enormous gift of life to other children . Out of respect for the pain that unites us , I will declare a day of mourning throughout the city, and the celebrations of San Michele will be cancelled ."
Alessandra was involved in a three-car collision along the provincial road connecting Nuoro to state highway 131 DCN and highway 389, a violent impact that left ten people injured . Her condition immediately appeared critical. After delicate neurosurgery at the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro, she was transferred to Rome. On Sunday afternoon, her condition suddenly deteriorated , leading to the declaration of brain death today.
