On October 5th in the square in Cagliari to say no to the Security bill (1660) but also to claim the possibility of demonstrating freely in favor of the Palestinian people. Even though, the actual pro-Palestine demonstration that should have taken place on October 7th in Sassari as in Rome, was moved to Saturday 12th after the stop by the police headquarters.
The announcement was made by the newly formed Retza de is istudiantes, a Foras, Unigcom, Assemblea Palestina Sassari and Unica per la Palestina who organized the procession in the capital. The demonstrators will gather before the departure at 5 pm in Piazza Garibaldi, and then walk along Via Garibaldi, Piazza Costituzione, Via Manno, Piazza Yenne, Largo Carlo Felice, Via Crispi, to end in Piazza del Carmine.
"Bill 1660 is liberticidal, police-state-like. A decree facilitated by a silent parliamentary opposition, which in previous years gave the green light to these new rules, which follow in the wake of the Minniti and Salvini decrees, and overcome the fascism of the Rocco decree - reads the statement released by the organizers - As anti-fascists, we believe that this decree strikes the genesis of the struggle in its entirety by undermining the right to protest, in particular demonstrations against the war (starting with those against the genocide in Gaza), and those against the construction of new military bases, workers' pickets, protests against major works, demonstrations and garrisons against energy speculation and for the right to housing".
In a week, however, the demonstrators will gather in Piazza d'Italia at 5 pm in Sassari to express solidarity with the Palestinian people. In their document they ask, among other things, «the total liberation of Palestine and its recognition as an autonomous state free from the Zionist colonial presence; The recognition of the crime of genocide committed by the Zionist entity and the international condemnation of Israel and its government and the end of any type of impunity; The right of the Palestinian people to return to their lands and homes; The withdrawal of any repressive or censorial measures for those who side with the Palestinian people».
The political controversy
The ban on the October 5 demonstration, organized by a section of the Palestinians close to the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, divides politics. With several members of the opposition who openly side against the stop: from the leader of Iv Matteo Renzi to the head of political initiatives of the Pd, Marco Furfaro, from the leader of Avs in the Senate Peppe De Cristofaro to the secretary of Più Europa Riccardo Magi. Fifteen members of the Five Star Movement signed a question, led by Stefania Ascari, to the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi to formally ask the reason for the niet to the march, stating that «this is not the first case of a ban on pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Italy».
According to Matteo Renzi, "banning demonstrations is a wrong choice. We have the necessary antibodies, as a society and as a country, to reject extremism". On a very similar line De Cristofaro of Avs: "Even though I do not recognize myself in that platform, I think that banning demonstrations is always wrong and counterproductive". From Più Europa, the secretary Riccardo Magi expresses "the strongest condemnation for the contents of the document calling for the demonstration that in fact intends to celebrate a terrorist act" but says he is "against the ban".
