No Tax Cuts, Ryanair Flys Away from Sardinia
The crux of the municipal surcharge: the Region can reduce it, but there's no agreement yet. And the company is moving toward abandoning routes to and from the island.Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Ryanair calls, the Region doesn't respond. With just a few months to go before the start of the summer season, the risk that the airline may withdraw from Sardinia is increasingly real.
The crux of the dispute between the Irish carrier and the Department of Transport has been the same for over a year: the reduction of municipal surcharges that increase ticket prices and make connections to and from the island less convenient. This is more than enough reason to have pushed the aviation giant led by Michael O'Leary to scale back its presence at five regional Spanish airports, taking away up to 60% of passengers.
The danger could also arise in Sardinia, where planes with the golden harp on their tails represent 62% of all incoming and outgoing flights.
