"I'm not the person who appears in those videos."

These are the words of Claudio Dettori , the 24-year-old from Sassari sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance for the murder of Antonio Fara , a 47-year-old bartender who was hammered to death in his apartment on April 22, 2021. The man today - before the Court of appeal of Sassari – he made spontaneous statements contesting testimonies and scientific reports, and above all the images of the video surveillance cameras in the area which had filmed him as he entered and left the apartment at times compatible with the crime.

At the opening of the hearing, the defendant revoked the assignment of his trusted defender , Danilo Mattana, appointing the lawyer Giuseppe Onorato as new lawyer. He is the eighth professional who has alternated in defending the defendant since the beginning of the proceedings . Dettori, at the time of the murder, had been a guest of Fara for about two months because he was homeless. On 22 April two years ago, the discovery of Fara's body in his home, killed with hammers .

Suspicions immediately fell on the 24-year-old who, before escaping, had called the police to report a probable murder in his friend's house. The trial has been adjourned to next April 21 , when the word will pass to the defense lawyer.
