Thirty thousand people applauded the more than one hundred groups that took part in the parade of the 52nd edition of the Citrus Festival in Muravera on Sunday, April 19th. A resounding success for the most anticipated festival in Sarrabus, the one that inaugurates the tourist season.
"A splendid day of celebration and a new beginning," emphasized Tourism Councilor Matteo Plaisant . "Let's not forget that just two months ago, a windstorm brought citrus growers to their knees , and consequently, an entire community. This was the response, an even more beautiful festival." Among the hundred groups were eight etnotraccas , animated floats depicting moments of life in the past. There was the preparation of fresh pasta (and the typical malloreddus), su maistu de linna , the life of a miner. And then "impastendi e inforrendi" (sweets and bread baked on site in an early 20th-century oven), manixendi in s'arriu (washing clothes along the river, and more), and the art of Sa Pratzida de Santu Idu, distributed in small pieces to the applause of the crowd.
In the afternoon, along with dancing and singing in Piazza Europa (directed by the excellent Giuliano Marongiu), the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Maria Luisa Congiu . But the festival isn't over yet: on April 24th and 25th, there will be a double date with a concert by Francesco Baccini and a show by Alessandro Pili (mayor of Scraffingiu).
