Environmentalists against the buoy-field project in the Marine Protected Area: «It will increase nautical pressure», warn the sea sentinels. But even Fratelli d'Italia is asking for a stop to the installation of about 200 floating moorings in the marine reserve, for different reasons: « There will be a decline in recreational boating» , predicts the city coordinator Marco Di Gangi.

The “controlled mooring zones” are a topic of discussion. Some are already operational throughout the Capo Caccia-Isola Piana marine reserve . The Park has obtained funding under the Pnrr to increase moorings. The buoys already installed are several and are not only useful to boaters, but also to those involved in the diving, charter and fishing tourism sectors.

"If on the one hand it is argued (environmentalists) that the project attracts nautical traffic and, on the other (boaters), that it contracts it, evidently neither of the two has correctly understood the presuppositions and purposes" , comments the director of the Marine Area Mariano Mariani. "These latter are primarily of an environmental nature to protect the priority species of the Posidonia meadows: after years of excessive boating and wild anchoring, our marine area presents a worrying state of health of the Posidonia meadows that is no longer tolerable . Only two measures can counteract this criticality: avoid the transit of boats in the Marine Protected Area (as happens in Asinara); or create buoy fields, prohibiting anchoring. Leaving aside the first case that in Alghero would lead to a rebellion of the nautical world, - Mariani insists - we have invested, as suggested by the Ministry of the Environment and Ispra, in the second, which also takes into account the needs of the nautical sector itself that will be able to continue to transit in the Marine Area and will be able to moor in the approximately 200 buoys that will be built. A project therefore, ours, of great balance between priority environmental needs, but careful not to penalize an important sector for Alghero such as the nautical sector", concludes the director.
