"The statue has been taken away for a new restoration". A notice written on a sheet of paper, placed inside the niche, located on the sides of the provincial road to Santu Lussurgiu, on the edge of the Scalarba district, announces that the statuette of Saint Anthony of Padua, which disappeared from its niche about a month ago and was then found, has been taken away again for a new restoration .

An operation around which, however, controversy is flaring up again. The statuette had been removed about a month ago, without notifying the managers of the Sant'Antonio society, by a local craftsman who wanted to restore it . On that occasion, a theft report had also been made and only later did the police discover that it was a spontaneous action, carried out by a local craftsman, to restore the statuette, placed in that niche over 50 years ago.

In recent days the statuette has been put back in its place, in the niche, but that restoration is not good. So much so that the committee preferred to take the statuette back and entrust it to a local artist, to restore it better. The operation of the anonymous craftsman is now at the center of controversy, especially on social media, even if many, among other things, write : "Whoever he is, he certainly did it in good faith. But restoration is a very serious thing that requires knowledge and experience of the subject." Many are proposing to do the restoration themselves, but the Sant'Antonio committee preferred to entrust it to a local artist, author of many works of art, including public ones. Several professionals are offering, free of charge, to carry out the restoration.
