From Coxinas to Gennargentu with around seventy cattle in tow. Lele Stochino and his son Vincenzo are among the few who, still today, carry out the ancient practice of transhumance .

With their herd, at 4.30pm on Saturday, they will leave the land downstream of Arzana to set off towards Gennargentu, which with the approach of summer is a healthier oasis for the livestock.

Forty kilometers on foot with an overnight stop after a four-hour walk. The itinerary also includes transit within the town of Arzana, in full respect of tradition. From here the farmers and the herd will head towards Su Pradu and then continue towards Flumendosa.

At dawn the following day the transfer will continue towards Ruinas where arrival is scheduled for 1pm. In much of the island, with the advent of intensive farming and shelter in air-conditioned stables, the centuries-old practice has almost everything disappeared. Alessandro Serra, director of Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra, will also participate in the event.
