Laconi, the new stadium will be named after Gigi Riva

It will be the "Gigi Riva" football pitch . The sports facility, once ready to be walked on by the players, will be named after Rombo di Tuono , who died at the age of 79 on January 22nd. This was decided by the Laconi municipal council led by mayor Salvatore Argiolas. In the town of Sarcidano the champion will be honored in this way.

The works involving the installation of a latest generation synthetic grass surface will begin very soon. The municipal administration will soon sign the contract with the company that won the contract for the renovation of the pitch. Work should start by March . Only afterwards will a ceremony be organized to name the eleven-a-side football pitch in the sports area called "Vincenzo Dotzo" in memory of Riva, the king of Cagliari and beyond.

The objective of the Municipality is to demonstrate in a concrete way a fair recognition of Gigi Riva: «It will be a way to pay homage to the strongest striker of the post-war national football team and holder, currently, of the greatest number of goals scored with the Cagliari shirt and of Italy - we read in the resolution - the one who over the years has represented the possibility of redemption and dignity for the whole of Sardinia, as a footballer, as a sports manager and above all as a man, the absolute protagonist of the scudetto won by Cagliari in 1970 and of the 'European Championship won by Italy two years earlier."
