The loud roar of motorcycles accompanies the last journey of Andrea Lai , the 49-year-old who died on Friday night in a road accident with his Suzuki motorbike along state road 387, near Serdiana.

A deeply moved crowd gathered at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Quartu, where the man lived and worked as a tire repairer in his shop on Viale Marconi. Family members, relatives, and many motorcyclist friends stood guard over the coffin both at the entrance and exit of the church .

In the front pews, his wife Marianna, wearing dark glasses and a face bowed with grief, tightly holds the hand of her daughter Rosanna, while the parish priest, Don Antonello Piras, tries to offer words of consolation: "This church, filled as never before, demonstrates how much Andrea was loved by all. In these moments, I believe we all need to take refuge in faith, the only thing capable of piercing the darkness of death." He then refers to a priest, Don Oreste Benzi, who wrote a phrase before dying: "When my eyes close to this earth and my body lies in a coffin, many around me will say 'he's dead.' But it's a lie. My eyes will open again and contemplate infinite love." Because death, the parish priest added, "is only a blink of an eye before the encounter with the Lord."

At the end of the celebration, the coffin covered in red flags is greeted once again by the roar of engines and fireworks before the final stage towards the cemetery.
