In Cagliari, a young man at the helm of the latest roasting company
Andrea Pettinari, together with his wife, select quality coffees arriving from all over the worldAndrea Pettinari talks about his passion for coffee (Archive)
He defines himself as a coffee lover. The quality one, the good one for taste and aroma.
Andrea Pettinari, 33 years old, is perhaps the only and last owner of an artisan roastery in the center of Cagliari, which he runs together with his wife. Gone are the days when there were five or six of them, starting with the one in via Dante, halfway between piazza Giovanni and piazza San Benedetto.
Pettinari claims it gracefully, without hunting for primates: in via Caprera he has a small bar where you can taste his excellence, spending roughly what you spend on a cup of commercial product.
The coffee here comes from Colombia and Ethiopia, it has oriental taste notes: sweet like cherries, but with a bitter aftertaste like fine rum . And it is roasted, one kilo after another, in a sort of mezzanine, where the bags with tons of beans are kept.
To understand what coffee is for him, Pettinari also organizes events: one, tomorrow from 8.30, in via Caprera. The Caffè dell'arte in presentation is called Impressionism. Those who have had the pleasure of tasting it in preview define it as impressive. «Everyone goes in search of good and quality things», says Pettinari. «Mine is a research work, a reflection of the many experiences I have had all over the world. And I would say that I can also be satisfied with the answer: you don't need to be an expert to know how to choose a top-quality artisan coffee».
