The anti-Covid vaccination campaign turns one year old, in Italy and Sardinia. On 26 December 2020, the first doses of the Pfizer vaccine landed on the island by military flight from Pratica di Mare airport. The next day the first administrations to health personnel, in what was renamed V-Day.

Twelve months later, almost 3 million, 2,956,000 to be precise, the doses administered on the island: 67% Pfizer, 20% Moderna, 12% AstraZeneca and 1% Johnson & Johnson. The peak was recorded on May 22, with 24,752 inoculations in one day, while the highest number of third doses was on December 10, with 14,682 inoculations.

A total of 413 thousand booster doses administered on the island, 4 thousand pediatric doses to 5-11 year olds, so the campaign began on December 16.

With a coverage of 79.2% of the total population, Sardinia is among the top seven Italian regions, against a national average of 78%.

The island holds the record for vaccinated 12-19 year olds, with a coverage of 79.11% of the audience, compared to an Italian average of 72.36%.

"We are carrying out the most impressive vaccination campaign that Sardinia has ever known, both for the numbers involved and from the point of view of the organization and the forces in the field", declares President Christian Solinas.

Who claims the "important results" achieved in one year and observes: "In relation to the trend of the pandemic curve, the number of hospitalizations and the most serious cases remains low, and this thanks to vaccination coverage".

"However, Covid", he warns, "still represents a threat due to the spread of the new variants, the battle is not won and everyone will need responsibility and commitment".

The regional health councilor Mario Nieddu claims "immense work": "Thanks to the health workers, volunteers and all the people who have provided and who still work today in the hubs and vaccination points of the area, we were able to reach significant goals ".
