The summer holiday season is in full swing, and with it the phenomenon of animal abandonment , which in the hottest months records worrying peaks. To combat it, the State Police has launched the new spot “If I don’t take you, I won’t leave” . An awareness campaign with affectionate but firm tones that, accompanied by the mascot “Leo”, reminds us that abandoning an animal is a crime, now punishable with even more severe penalties thanks to the new highway code.
Anyone caught abandoning an animal while driving risks having their license suspended for six months to a year . But the consequences can be even more serious: if abandonment results in a road accident, criminal liability falls on the owner.
The advert, broadcast on the official channels of the State Police, is aimed directly at those who have a pet and are planning their holidays, with a simple but powerful message: "Let's not abandon them".
