On 11 March last, in Olbia , while he was on duty on the bus, he was faced with a man with his clothes on fire and immediately he did not exist to grab a fire extinguisher, to put out the fire in a desperate attempt to save his life .

The man was then accompanied to the hospital, in very serious conditions, and died after ten days of agony.

That man was Tony Cozzolino , victim - it later became known - of the arson attack carried out by a neighbor , who later turned himself into the police, to take revenge for old grudges.

Three months after the tragedy, the driver-hero, Antonio Dessena , received a solemn commendation from the mayor of Olbia Settimo Nizzi .

"The whole Municipal Administration and the community of Olbia - reads the parchment delivered to the driver - transmit the highest sentiments of appreciation and the most heartfelt thanks to Antonio Dessena, who spoke with timing, courage and ability on 11 March 2022, while he was in service at Aspo SpA, doing everything possible to save the life of Mr. Tony Cozzolino. With his gesture he helped to raise the image of the city of Olbia, showing exceptional gifts of altruism and self-denial ".

“We are proud that this fellow citizen of ours has acted with such determination, showing a great heart, cool head and an adequate preparation to face even the most dramatic situations”, commented Mayor Settimo Nizzi.
