According to what was reconstructed by the carabinieri, while playing in the street with some peers, the boy picked up the firecracker from the ground , which probably remained unexploded after the New Year's celebrations, and set it on fire with a lighter .

The firecracker immediately exploded causing burns and fractures to the 12-year-old's left hand .

The boy's mother sounded the alarm, transported from 118 to Brotzu in yellow code.

The 12-year-old is now awaiting surgery to limit the extent of the damage.

The Ordinary and Juvenile Prosecutors of Cagliari have been informed by the military.
