He will be subjected to a new psychiatric visit in prison , after the refusal to appear today in the courtroom of a first defense consultant, Masih Shahid , the 30-year- old Pakistani accused of the attempted murder of his ex-partner , Paola Piras, aged 52, and of the killing of her son , Mirko Farci , aged 19, who had tried strenuously to defend her from the man's attack, which took place in their home in Tortolì on 11 May 2021.
This was decided by the Assize Court of Cagliari accepting the request of the lawyer Federico Delitala who assists the accused. The defender's goal is to demonstrate the fragility and mental imbalances that the 30-year-old has been suffering from for some time .
Once the visit has been made, the new consultant, Antonio Canu, will present his report at the first hearing scheduled for next 7 December .
According to the lawyer Delitala, Paola Piras herself reported to investigators that her former partner suffered from " manic and suicidal delusions " and that on her own initiative she would have entrusted himself to a mental health center .
Today the Court heard a defense witness, the waitress of the pizzeria under the house of Paola Piras, who said she had interfaced with the couple several times and had collected her fears for her and her family's safety.
According to the witness's account, Masih Shahid expressed himself in understandable Italian , thus denying the accused when he stated that some messages deemed compromising by the prosecution were not attributable to him due to the difficulties with the Italian language.
In addition to the defense psychiatrist, Mirko's brother Lorenzo Farci and a Pakistani friend of Masih Shahid will be heard at the hearing on 7 December.
Paola Piras , who had remained in a coma for months following the 17 stab wounds inflicted by Shahid, was not present in the courtroom , but the accused was there.
The woman and the young victim's family members filed a civil action with the lawyers Marcello Caddori, Paolo Pilia, Maurizio Corda and Maurizio Mereu.
