The trial against Fulvio Baule, the 43-year-old bricklayer from Ploaghe who, on February 22, 2022, in Porto Torres, killed his in-laws, Basilio Saladdino and Liliana Mancusa, with an axe, leaving his ex-wife, Ilaria Saladdino, who survived after a long period of rehabilitation treatment, at the brink of death, opened this morning at the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Sassari .

In the hearing that took place in the participatory council chamber, before the president Salvatore Marinaro, the defense attorney, Nicola Lucchi, asked for his client to be recognized as having mitigating circumstances that would redefine the sentence from life imprisonment to 30 years, through the resumption of a new psychiatric assessment and the recognition of Baule's psychological fragility at the time of the facts.

A condition that would have worsened following the separation from his wife and the disputes that arose between the two families of both spouses . Also in the courtroom were the lawyers of the civil parties, Gian Mario Solinas and Silvia Ferraris, who believe that there are no subjective and objective elements to support the request for mitigating circumstances, but there would be further negative conditions for not granting it and for not considering it prevalent with respect to the contested aggravating circumstances.

The hearing was adjourned to March 31. The Court of Assizes of Sassari last June had sentenced Fulvio Baule to life imprisonment, having been recognized as capable of understanding and willing at the time of the facts. Life imprisonment had also been requested by the prosecutor Enrica Angioni in her closing speech.
