There appears to be no causal link between the use of the Taser and the death of Gianpaolo Demartis, the 57-year-old man, originally from Bultei, who died after an intervention by the Carabinieri of the Olbia Mobile Radio Unit. The events date back to August 16th of last year and occurred in the Olbia neighborhood of Santa Mariedda.

The medical-legal report ordered by Deputy Prosecutor Alessandro Bosco has been submitted. According to the specialist, Demartis died of heart failure (the man was ill) and there is evidence of cocaine use . Gianpaolo Demartis was struck twice by Taser darts. The officers reportedly warned the man three times, loudly announcing their readiness to deploy the Taser. With the submission of the report, the investigation (opened for manslaughter) has reached a turning point. The individuals under investigation are being assisted by the Independent Carabinieri Union.

Maria Paola Marro, the lawyer representing the two officers, commented: "The outcome of the consultation raises every doubt about the correctness of the officers' actions , who acted in full compliance with applicable law. We confidently await a dismissal of the case and a positive conclusion to the events involving the two Carabinieri."
