New turtle nest on the Ogliastra coast, the second (that we know of) after the one in Cea discovered two weeks ago. A large specimen of Caretta caretta has chosen the Tancau beach in Lotzorai to lay its eggs. The nest was discovered by the team of the naval logistics operating base (Blon) of Arbatax with a drone.

In fact, last night the turtle had tried to nest on the nearby beach of Santa Maria Navarrese. The scene was resumed by some bathers amazed at the sight of the beautiful specimen. But on her way to find a suitable spawning space she found a wall, so she turned around and headed back towards the sea.

The Blon of Arbatax thanks to the help of the drone this morning scoured the nearby beaches finding the signs of the nest on the Tancau beach right in front of the islet. In fact, for several months the team has been monitoring the beaches also with the help of drones to find signs of nesting.

The area has been made safe and fenced off and, as per protocol, Cres del Sinis, head of the regional network for the defense of marine fauna, has been notified. The biologists will soon reach the nest to secure it and monitor it in collaboration with the Forestry and Environmental Surveillance Corps until the eggs hatch which will take place in about 60 days.

Remember that it is very important when you are faced with a turtle intent on nesting to keep a safe distance to avoid disturbing it while it is laying its eggs.
