Giorgino regasification plant, Ghirra (AVS): "We need to find a different location"

Now, after the "yes" from the Ministry of the Environment, the only thing missing is the go-ahead from the Region to the project which envisages the construction of a storage and regasification plant with a structure on the quay for the connection and unloading of LNG from LNG carriers, a complex of cryogenic pipes for transporting the fluid in the plant, a storage, pumping and regasification system for part of the stored LNG, as well as a station for filtering, measuring and odorizing natural gas, preparatory and necessary for the introduction of gas into the transport networks.
« We ask the Government and the Region to listen to citizens and find a different position for the Giorgino regasification terminal - declares Ghirra - The inhabitants of the fishing village are worried about the construction of the regasification terminal close to the houses and the junction of the SS195 and we are with them . Citizens have been fighting for years to ask for a different location to be identified for the LNG Terminal . Given the extension of the Porto Canale and Cacip areas, it would not be difficult to find more suitable areas, further away from the houses and from the junction of the coastal state road 195".
Concern is also expressed not only for health and safety but also «for the operations of the canal port, already deeply in crisis. We would not like the new plant to represent a further obstacle to the economic-productive, naturalistic and touristic development of the Santa Gilla compendium. In December I presented a question to the Ministers of the Environment, Infrastructure and Culture on the subject - adds the deputy - on Monday I will file a new one to get news on the Italy-Algeria agreement on Galsi and on the opportunity to build the regasification terminal anyway by Giorgino".
