Damage and losses for approximately 6.5 million euros. These are the numbers of the bad weather that, between 26 and 27 October 2024, hit Sardinia, in particular Sulcis and Medio Campidano, bringing agricultural and livestock companies to their knees. The exceptional adverse weather conditions were officially recognized by the Regional Council, on the proposal of the Councilor for Agriculture Gian Franco Satta. This recognition opens the way to concrete support measures for agricultural and livestock companies damaged by what was one of the worst natural disasters of the season.
The Regional Council had already allocated the necessary funds to facilitate the resumption of agricultural activities in the affected areas . Now, with the territorial delimitation approved by the Council, it is essential to ensure that the funding reaches the 242 companies involved in a timely manner.
The most affected areas include Decimoputzu, Villasor, Villaspeciosa and Siliqua , where the overall damage amounts to 6,573,051 euros. The technicians of Laore, the regional agency for technical services, have completed a detailed field assessment, estimating damage to crops for over 3.5 million euros, to company structures, to inter-farm roads and to land improvement works for approximately 2.7 million euros. In addition, damage to livestock assets for 135,288 euros and to company supplies for 99,750 euros were recorded.
Councilor Satta stressed the importance of ensuring that the resources earmarked for reconstruction and support for businesses arrive quickly . "The economic support measures have already been allocated, now it is essential that these funds reach businesses quickly to allow them to overcome the difficult situation ," he said. The prompt intervention of the institutions, with the support of Laore technicians, is a fundamental step for the resumption of agricultural and livestock activities in Sardinia, safeguarding the economy of the most vulnerable areas and supporting farmers and breeders who have suffered significant damage due to extreme weather events.
