Prevention is an excellent weapon against fires. And those who do not follow the rules, if caught, are fined. To date, July 29, the administrative fines issued by the Cagliari Departmental Inspectorate's forestry stations for violations of regional fire safety regulations amount to approximately €170,000 .

The most frequently detected violations concern the burning of stubble and plant residues without the necessary authorization from the Forestry Corps between May 15th and June 30th, as well as the lighting of fires from July 1st, when it is absolutely prohibited.

In at least four confirmed incidents, rangers report, activities initially thought to be related to burning have turned out to be illegal waste burning: a crime punishable by up to six years in prison.

Further violations included the failure to create firebreaks by removing dry vegetation and combustible material, the failure to clear road ditches, and the failure to maintain firebreaks protecting settlements, infrastructure, and areas at risk of fire.

Violation of regional fire safety regulations results in administrative fines ranging from €5,000 to €50,000. This does not affect, of course, any additional criminal liability if the conduct constitutes a crime.
