The devastation caused by the vast fire that broke out last Friday in the wooded area between Arzana and Elini is worsening.
The initial estimate assumed that around 200 hectares of land were affected, but new surveys conducted by the Forestry Corps, both by land and by helicopter, indicate that 250-300 hectares were damaged by the fire (an area roughly equivalent to 420 football pitches).
The numbers are not yet official, as the perimeter and photo-interpretation operations by the competent territorial service are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, while the Lanusei Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a file for environmental disaster , hypothesizing a possible malicious origin, the regional councilor for the Environment Rosanna Laconi went on a visit to the site, to take stock of the damage caused by the massive fire together with the local administrations.
