Alarm raised for a fire that broke out this morning on the hills of Villasimius.

Flames are devouring Mediterranean scrub and forest in the Nicolau area. Firefighters, forest rangers, civil defense, and volunteers are responding to the scene.

Supporting the teams on the ground are a Canadair from the national fleet and a helicopter from the regional fleet, which are dropping water bombs to contain the flames.

On-site firefighting operations are coordinated by the DOS (Firefighting Operations Director) of the Castiadas Forestry Station.

On the island, where a yellow alert was issued today in the southern and eastern parts due to the risk of fires , wind gusts are exceeding 32 km/h, while temperatures, especially in the east and south, are reaching and sometimes exceeding 30 degrees.

Other fires, which caused regional helicopters to take flight in Tuili , in the Medio Campidano, and Narcao , in the Sulcis.
