"Einstein Telescope - Challenges and opportunities for the territory" is the theme that scholars, institutional representatives and stakeholders will discuss during a public meeting scheduled for January 30 in Bitti, starting at 4:30 pm in the Ariston cinema theater.

The event is organized as part of the annual meeting of Crenos (North-South Economic Research Center) which this year will be held in Bitti with several working sessions, from January 30 to February 1, 2025, and which will involve over 60 researchers, several of whom come from the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari.

The initiative, open to the communities involved in the international research project (Bitti, Lula and Onanì) and those of the surrounding areas, is conceived by Crenos in collaboration with the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (Infn) and the two island universities. It also has the patronage of ET Italy, local administrations, the Tepilora Regional Natural Park and the Fondazione di Sardegna.

"The territories of Sardinia are preparing for a unique opportunity. Because becoming the site of a research infrastructure like the Einstein Telescope means opening up to an ambitious project on a scientific and development level, which could lead to transforming the Island into an international hub of advanced research", said Anna Maria Pinna who explained how the event of January 30 has the precise objective of promoting discussion with local communities on the implications, challenges and opportunities connected to this strategic candidacy.

"The ET - continued the director of Crenos - is not only an infrastructure for the study of gravitational waves, but will represent, if realized, a catalyst for economic, scientific and cultural development . This is why the public meeting in Bitti has the purpose of creating an open and constructive dialogue in the communities, not only of the three municipalities involved but of the whole of Sardinia, between the different stakeholders involved. A comparison on the economic impacts, between employment and innovation, which will animate the ten years of construction of the project and above all the active role that local populations will have to have in defining territorial development strategies , also to strengthen the role of Sardinia as a scientific hub of European and international importance", concluded Pinna.

"We are pleased to host the annual meeting that brings together CRENos researchers and that this year puts the Einstein Telescope project at the center of attention, with a dedicated public initiative - said Giuseppe Ciccolini - The meeting on January 30 will be a further opportunity to encourage discussion with citizens on a topic that is so dear to us and on which, as a territory and as Sardinia, we have strong hopes for development".

On Saturday 1st February, as the last activity of the three-day Bitto event, Crenos researchers will visit some of the most interesting tourist-cultural attractions in the area: from the archaeological site of Romanzesu to the Tepilora Park.
