In Sardinia the drought alarm does not abate, with the countryside continuing to suffer from chronic lack of water . Meanwhile, concerns are growing among growers and breeders, who have been grappling with the problem that has brought companies to their knees for months now. The water emergency, which has long been reported by Coldiretti , has convinced the prefect of Nuoro Giancarlo Dionisi who has called a meeting this morning at the police station with 43 local mayors . The driest area remains the central-eastern coast. But the phenomenon is also affecting the interior, putting the entire agricultural and livestock sector to the test. Present at the meeting were the president and director of Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra, Leonardo Salis and Alessandro Serra with a delegation of local managers.

«Considering the cyclical nature and the persistence over time of the absence of atmospheric precipitation, also as a function of ongoing climate changes, we can no longer speak of an emergency - comment the Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra leaders - we continually receive requests from our members of help and interventions aimed at protecting and safeguarding companies and the entire rural economy, the backbone of our region. It is concrete to hypothesize that the upcoming summer season will significantly amplify the discomfort - Serra and Salis fear - also as a function of the increase in consumption resulting from the influx of tourists".

Present at the meeting were the first citizens of Arzana, Barisardo, Baunei, Bitti, Budoni, Cardedu, Dorgali, Elini, Gairo, Galtelli, Girasole, Ilbono, Irgoli, Jerzu, Lanusei, Loceri, Loculi, Lode, Lotzorai, Lula, Oliena, Onanì, Onifai, Orosei, Orune, Osidda, Osini, Perdasdefogu, Posada, San Teodoro, Seui, Siniscola, Talana, Tertenia, Torpe, Tortoli, Triei, Ulassai, Urzulei, Ussassai, Villagrande strisaili, Villanovatulo. Also invited to the table were the two Reclamation Consortia of Ogliastra and Central Sardinia and the regional departments responsible for Agriculture and Environment, Public Works and Industry; the extraordinary administrator of the Province of Nuoro.

The long period of extreme hardship faced by companies is also halving the profits of ranchers and farmers. As if that were not enough, economic difficulties are increasing and those linked to the expenses linked to the necessary interventions to overcome the water shortage are increasing. Among the most emblematic cases is that of a farmer who works in the Tertenia-Villaputzu countryside: for days the company has been in serious difficulty due to the impossibility of supplying water to water his herd of over 100 adult cattle and 40 calves , so much so that without immediate intervention, within two or three days, he risks no longer being able to give his animals water. To be able to sustain the animals he needs around 6 thousand liters of water a day but now, with difficulty, he is able to transport a small part of it with makeshift means and with several daily trips. Their current 15 thousand liters could guarantee the survival of the animals for only a few days and for this reason they ask for support. Appeal accepted by Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra but despite various requests forwarded to the relevant bodies, to date, the situation remains unchanged.
