«The water resources of the Bau Muggeris dam (Alto del Flumendosa lake) would allow us to save the 2025 irrigation season in the districts of Southern Campidano and North Isili. In fact, 25 million cubic meters of water could be discharged from the basin (managed by Enel) into the Nuraghe Arrubiu dam (managed by Enas), which supplies the two districts that are in serious crisis due to the prolonged drought».

This is the plan of the council led by governor Alessandra Todde , who has decided to bring to the attention of the next meeting of the Institutional Committee of the Basin Authority, chaired by Todde herself, the proposal to request Enel to transfer the water that would allow the irrigation of the countryside of the two districts of Southern Campidano and Northern Isili.

"This is - explains a note from the Region - an exceptional measure to combat the serious drought that has hit the regional territory in recent years and has led to a series of restrictions that in some areas of Sardinia have affected, in addition to the irrigation sector, also the drinking sector".

"In the southern Campidano area - the Region continues - the restrictions have affected the entire sector with a reduction in irrigated surfaces during the 2024 season, in the order of 30% compared to ordinary seasons. As of February 28, in the three reservoirs of the Medio Flumendosa system (Flumineddu, Nuraghe Arrubiu and Mulargia) approximately 220 million cubic meters were in reservoirs, approximately 15 million less than in the same period last year. With this allocation, unless there is abundant spring rainfall, the irrigation season of southern Campidano would be severely penalized, with a reduction in irrigable surfaces close to 50% compared to normal allocations and full satisfaction of users . While for the Isili Nord area the irrigation season would be completely compromised. In the absence of extraordinary actions, the agricultural sector of one of the most important irrigated areas of Sardinia will therefore be severely penalized".

Currently, the regional administration emphasizes, " the Bau Muggeris dam contains approximately 50 million cubic meters, a quantity much higher than that necessary to satisfy the drinking and irrigation needs of Ogliastra, which would be sufficient for about half . The proposal by President Todde could therefore allow the Institutional Committee of the Basin Authority and the Regional Council to restrict at least 25 million cubic meters and ensure that Enel does not proceed with the turbines for hydroelectric purposes of the entire reservoir water resource and the consequent discharge towards the Ogliastra coast".

"With the adoption of this decision - concludes the note from Viale Trento - the Region would instead ask Enel to discharge into the riverbed at least 25 million cubic meters. Water that can be used to replenish the system of lakes of the middle Flumendosa that feed the irrigation districts of southern Campidano managed by the Land Reclamation Consortium of Southern Sardinia. The operation would guarantee an irrigation season in line with that of last year".
