A large fire broke out this morning around 8am in land near the cathedral and seminary of San Pantaleo, in Dolianova.

The nuns who reside in the ecclesiastical structure tried to tame the flames "armed" with only red buckets full of water . But their attempts were not enough to contain the fire, which, driven by the sirocco wind , burned at least two hectares between via Don Milani and via Gandhi, even attacking a reed thicket, after having crossed an area covered with shrubs which, according to initial information, they were intended for collection to be sold as fodder.

Fortunately, two fire brigade teams, the Forestry men and the local police officers intervened on site. The first ones put out the flames, the last ones managed the traffic because visibility was made poor by a thick blanket of smoke.

The land was cleared before noon. The Forestry Service is working to ascertain the causes.
