Alfredo Cospito , a prisoner under the 41-bis regime in Sassari prison, has been denied books and CDs. Despite the court's approval to hand over the material, the prison, the Department of Penitentiary Administration (DAP), and the Ministry of Justice have appealed to the Supreme Court of Cassation to oppose the release.
While awaiting the decision, the inmate is not allowed to read the books or listen to the CDs requested. "These measures are hard to reconcile with a democratic state," says Flavio Rossi Albertini, Cospito's lawyer, who believes "the intention is to apply Article 41 bis completely outside the scope of the law."
Among the books requested by the anarchist are "God Plays Dice with the World" by Giuseppe Mussardo, "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson, and "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub. The music CD is "2Who Let the Dog Out" by the Lambrini Girls. Meanwhile, May 4th is expected, when the ministry will have to decide whether to renew the prisoner's harsh prison regime for another two years.
