Cagliari's NAS (National Anti-Corruption and Prevention Agency) conducted a new round of checks in the provinces of Cagliari, Sulcis Iglesiente, and Medio Campidano.

The inspections involved 45 establishments operating in the beach, hospitality, catering, healthcare, personal services, and social assistance sectors, with the aim of protecting public health and ensuring the smooth running of economic activities during the tourist season.

The inspection revealed irregularities in 18 commercial establishments and accommodation facilities, representing approximately 40% of the total inspections carried out.

A total of 33 fines were contested, worth approximately 38,000 euros , mainly for hygiene and health deficiencies, defects in food traceability and failure to comply with the required authorisations.

Intensive checks were also conducted in the restaurant sector. In the city center of Cagliari , the immediate suspension of food and beverage service was ordered within a restaurant. An infestation of live cockroaches was found within the premises used for the shared storage of food and cleaning products, resulting in a complaint being filed for the appalling hygiene conditions.

Also in the hospitality and restaurant sector, in the municipality of Pula , the outdoor kitchen of a hotel restaurant was inspected. During the inspection, serious hygiene deficiencies were found, evidenced by the widespread presence of cobwebs on the equipment, along with a failure to implement HACCP self-monitoring procedures due to the lack of pest barriers.

In the beach resort sector, in the municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena , the operators carried out the administrative seizure of refrigeration equipment used by a beach resort. The investigations revealed that the business operated with a license only allowing itinerant sales, despite having installed fixed equipment on public maritime property, constituting a non-notified establishment.
