The Cathedral of Sant'Antonio Abate in Castelsardo is packed. Crowds of people outside. No one speaks, inside or outside the walls, along the steps, or on the embankment overlooking the sea in front of the church.
Cinzia Pinna's coffin arrives. Her family follows. Her father, Renato, her mother, Diana, and her sister, Carlotta, experienced the anxiety of her disappearance after September 11th, and then the excruciating pain of discovering the crime, when they learned that their girlfriend had been murdered, and her body hidden, by Emanuele Ragnedda on the land of Conca Entosa, between Arzachena and Palau. A murder that, given what happened in the days that followed, still has some unclear aspects.
But today there's no room for question marks. The silence of the afternoon in Castelsardo is broken by the evocative entrance into the church of the Confraternity of Santa Croce, by the choir singing the funeral song . And by the wind. Then the funeral ceremony, officiated by Father Pietro Denicu, parish priest of Castelsardo, with Father Paolo Pala, parish priest of Palau, and Father Santino Cimino, originally from Castelsardo and now parish priest of Cannigione.
In Father Denicu's homily, he called for justice for Cinzia Pinna, expressed his closeness to the grief-stricken family, and also prayed for redemption and sincere repentance from the perpetrator. He also appealed to all young people to pursue the light, life, and not to follow the merchants of death.
"Let us silence our words, our judgments, this is the hour of prayer, of entrusting ourselves with mercy," said the priest.
An event that has affected three communities: Castelsardo, Palau, and Castelsardo—represented by the three mayors—but also all of Sardinia.
