Mathias Wincler, one of the managers of the residence in Orosei in which a 7-year-old child from Irgoli drowned on 2 September 2018 was sentenced to five months in prison.

Richard Mulas was sucked into the drain with the safety grid missing.

Hence the sentence (with suspension of the sentence) issued this morning by the Gup of the Court of Nuoro Teresa Castagna.

The judge also ordered compensation for the child's family, which will be quantified in the civil court.

Wincler, accused of manslaughter and defended by Gino Derosas and Antonella Pedduzza, had chosen to be tried with the shortened procedure.

His position was thus removed from the main trial, which always sees Alessandra Gusai and Sergio Appeddu, owner and managing director of the residence, accused of manslaughter.

The two lawyers, in their harangue this morning, asked for Wincler's acquittal and made it known that they will appeal. "The management of the swimming pool - they said - was in the hands of the administrator Sergio Appeddu who was also the builder. Wincler learned of the lack of the grate on the morning of the tragedy: it was Appeddu himself who told him that he had taken it off two days first".

The prosecutor Riccardo Belfiori asked for six months of imprisonment for Wincler: "He too, as legal representative of one of the two companies that managed the residence, was responsible for the duties of supervision and maintenance of the swimming pool" he remarked.

"The mother who was cleaning the residence at the time of the tragedy - it was also pointed out - could never have saved little Richard even if she had been present at the poolside. Only two big men 1.90 meters tall managed to do it. to snatch it from the grip of the nozzle where the arm was stuck ".
