After many decades of neglect, a new life is ready for the former penal colony of Castiadas. The Region, with the signing today of the operational delegation to the Società Opere e Infrastrutture della Sardegna, has given the green light to the intervention to secure the structure, which has marked the history of Sarrabus and Sardinia.
"We are intervening to secure a historical asset in a state of abandonment," said the councilor for local authorities, finance and urban planning Francesco Spanedda. "A necessary and preparatory activity for its planning and enhancement. In fact, it is important that our architectural memory is preserved and that the assets find new life through a refunctionalization for the benefit of the local community. It is a project that has the potential to contribute to providing a concrete response to the needs and expectations of the community ."
The intervention is part of a broader vision of protection and enhancement of public and identity heritage, which involves conservative restoration and the formulation of hypotheses for the use of the entire complex, including the Cala Sinzias Marine Branch. It is financed with 4.5 million euros of state funds .
"This is a responsibility we feel strongly about: putting public assets at the center of a strategy aimed at sustainable development of Sarrabus and Sardinia as a whole . Investing in public assets means investing in communities, in culture and in an idea of development that does not consume, but regenerates", concludes Spanedda.
