There were moments of fear this early afternoon along the State Road 131, Diramazione Centrale Nuorese , near the S'Iscala tunnel in the Budoni area. A car, an old Opel Kadett, caught fire inside the tunnel heading toward Nuoro, releasing a thick column of smoke that quickly filled the tunnel, reducing visibility and creating a serious situation of alarm among passing motorists.
Amid the chaos of the first few minutes, some vehicles drove the wrong way through the tunnel, attempting to escape the smoke and fire. Firefighters and traffic police responded quickly to the scene, engaged in extinguishing the blaze, securing the area, and managing traffic. No one was injured.
A section of State Road 131, "Diramazione Centrale Nuorese," was temporarily closed to southbound traffic due to the vehicle caught fire inside the S'Iscala tunnel. Traffic was diverted onto State Road 125 at the Budoni Sud junction, at kilometer 111, to allow for emergency operations and the restoration of safety. The road was quickly reopened and traffic returned to normal.
Anas teams, firefighters, and law enforcement officers are at the scene of the accident. No injuries have been reported so far, but the incident has caused significant traffic disruption and considerable concern among motorists.
